Doral Glades Park: Florida Water Star Award

The Doral Glades Park was just awarded the Florida Water Star Award.  We designed the new 25-acre park, which includes a nature center with exhibit, meeting, classroom, lab, and office spaces; an amphitheater and outdoor stage; kayak and boat ramp and pier; picnic and restroom pavilions; nature trails; tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts; and a multipurpose field. The park also includes wetland areas.  Our design utilized water conservation measures in the nature center, water-conscious native landscaping, and wetlands protection.  We’re thrilled to be recognized for our part in protecting Florida’s water resources....

Station #8: Busiest fire-rescue department in Broward County

Construction is underway at Fort Lauderdale Fire & Rescue Station #8. Fort Lauderdale has the largest and busiest municipal fire-rescue department in Broward County, responding to 50,000 calls a year.  Located across from Croissant Park, the 1-story, 3-bay facility will be home to 2 Advanced Life Support Units-- Rescue 8 and Engine 8. West Palm Beach Fire Station #4: Enduring and sustainable community design

West Palm Beach’s Fire Station #4 is sited at the gateway of one of West Palm Beach’s historical communities. Our sensitivity to the district’s history led us to a Spanish Mission style. We engaged not only the City as our client, but also residents to ensure the station met the community’s needs.  The final design seamlessly blends into the historical neighborhood’s aesthetic, is an example of enduring architecture that can withstand a Category 5 hurricane and serve as an emergency storm shelter, sustainable design that garnered LEED Silver certification, and the recipient of an Excellence in Achievement industry award. Flamingo Gardens Mary N. Porter Learning Center

Flamingo Gardens Botanical Garden & Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Broward County. CPZ Architects is thrilled to have designed a new Learning Center, nestled in the heart of the botanical garden.  Taking our cues from the historic Wray House and surrounding landscape, the new Mary N. Porter Learning Center will feel like it has always been a part of Flamingo Gardens. The Mary N. Porter Learning Center will provide 3,000 square feet of multi-purpose meeting and classroom space, exhibition space, and ADA restrooms for the more than 180,000 visitors to Flamingo Gardens each year.  More than 90 species of Florida native birds and animals, most permanently injured or non-releasable, call the 60-acre Flamingo Gardens home. The Learning Center will also serve as a bunker for wildlife during hurricanes....

Ocean Sports Development: We’re making waves

A new wave of architecture may be coming to Coral Springs—literally. We’re working with Ocean Sports Development to design a world class surf park. With cabanas, tiki bars, and a full-size wave park that’s Olympian-worthy, the park will cater to both surfing pros and families looking to enjoy a day in the sun.  Our design includes a Webber Wave Pool, invented by famed surfboarder Greg Webber. The Webber Wave Pool can generate 250 to 500 waves per hour and programmed and customized for any skill level or age.  The surf park links the rest of the city to the nearby Aquatic Center, further infusing the area with a sense of place and community. Martin County Fire Station #14: A station fit for a growing professional firefighting force

We developed the plans for a new Martin County Fire Station #14. The current facility’s location on the beach isn’t up to par with today’s building code for essential and hurricane-rated facilities.  The new location and building will better serve Martin County’s residents and businesses, with improved facilities for more ambulances and a growing professional firefighting force, including more women firefighters.   We’re proud to serve so many firefighting communities across Florida....

Fort Lauderdale Police Horse Barn: An Example of Enduring Architecture

The most sustainable architecture is often the design that stands the test of time. Enduring architecture strikes the critical balance of:  Longevity of purpose Cultural context   Sense of place and sensitivity to the environment Timeless aesthetics  Durable materials and construction practices We designed the police horse barn at Holiday Park in 1994. When it was designed, the project received the Fort Lauderdale AIA Award of Merit in Design. It looks and works just as well today as it did when the barn doors opened 27 years ago.  Longevity of purpose. Fort Lauderdale’s Mounted Unit continues to need and utilize the horse barn.  Cultural context. Police equine forces continue to be popular public safety ambassadors and effective crowd calming units.  Sense of place and sensitivity to the environment.
