Port Everglades, Florida
Port Everglades is getting a people-first design for their new Public Works facility. Based on interviews with staff, CPZ Architects is designing a new building that facilitates communication, connection, and community among the Port’s most valuable asset: its people. The trades are organized on a structural grid based on critical adjacencies, with a Central Mall serving as the spine of the building.
Two clerestories filter light into the ample mall, which along with an exterior courtyard, create “break rooms without the room” for employees to gather and interact, eat, and enjoy other amenities. A standalone Storage Building facilitates deliveries, but allows the rest of the site to be secured. All buildings are hardened with emergency back-up power to function through a Category 5 hurricane.
