“Designing Quality Architecture That Builds Lasting Relationships”
Introduction: The professional services nature of architectural practice presents a unique challenge in creating a community benefit plan in compliance with the City of Hallandale Beach’s community growth goals. The city’s Community Benefit goals include employment of city residents, use of city businesses, mentoring, training, apprenticeships, and community outreach. The nature of our professional and state guidelines that regulate our industry, limit our ability to hire local residents. As we typically only hire other professional services, the hiring of local Hallandale Beach businesses is again limited. Additionally, the nature of a continuing services contract, which lasts between three and five years, provides a vague timeline under which to perform the tasks and reporting associated with a typical Community Plan. We can however address other aspects of your mission including mentoring, and community outreach and provide a sample of possible programs. These will be delineated in the below plan.
Community Benefit Plan:
CPZ Architects believes in building lasting relationships with our clients. This central tenant of our company mission is reflected in our actions both past and present. As such, we strive to provide benefits to each community in which we practice.
- Mentoring:
-
- CPZ Architects recognizes the importance of mentoring and apprenticeship. As a professional architectural practice, these are core values we encourage and practice regularly. As such, we will provide a Student day each semester. These half day visits will be established to allow students from the
Hallandale High, Gulf Stream Middle, and McNichol middle STEM, graphic design, drafting, and engineering programs and the Hallandale Beach TEEN Zone group
- to visit our office and learn more about the practice of architecture. This provides a unique opportunity for these students to see the professional application of the skills they learn in these programs.
-
Community Outreach:
CPZ strives to participate in the communities in which we work. As part of our commitment to the city of Hallandale Beach CPZ will review community outreach opportunities on a project by project basis. As specific projects are not yet delineated, the scope of community Outreach cannot be clearly and completely defined. We can however provide a few possible examples.
- If the project selected is a Park Project, CPZ architects may perform the following Community Outreach Activities.
- Host an evening Dessert and Design Meeting with the local/affected community at both the schematic design, and 60% construction documents phase to present the project and answer resident questions about the design.
-
- CPZ will engage local vendors for the catering of these meetings.
- If the project is a Fire Station, CPZ may perform the following Community Outreach Activities.
- Host an evening Dessert and Design Meeting with the local/affected community at both the schematic design, and 60% construction documents phase to present the project and answer resident questions about the design.
- CPZ will engage local vendors for the catering of these meetings.
- We are also open and welcome discussions with the City to see what other activities or ways we can provide community outreach.
Measures:
-
- CPZ will complete a Community Benefit Report each month which is part of a scoped and contracted project.
- We will provide a revised community benefit plan on a project by project basis.
Scheduling:
-
- Mentoring, and Classroom presentation activities will be scheduled on semester basis during the school year.
- Dessert and Design meetings will be scheduled on the basis of the individual project basis.
